The unfortunate BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill in June 2010 may have caused many Key West citizens and businesses to suffer property damage and economic loss. The sad incident left those affected by the spill struggling to keep businesses afloat, and many feel frustrated by the disaster. BP reached a an agreement in principle with attorneys for the Plaintiffs Steering Committee of MDL 2179 last month.

The Agreement in Principle made immediate changes to the previous Gulf Coast Claims Facility. The new claims program is now court-supervised, has been moved to be more centrally located and now has a new court-appointed administrator.

All residents and business owners around Key West who were affected by the spill are encouraged to attend one of the town hall meetings being held today to learn about compensation opportunities. Meetings are at 11:00 and 5:00 pm.

For more information about the meetings and frequently asked questions, check out Business by the Beach.
