Individuals and Businesses Can Now Submit Claims under BP Settlement

Comments Off

On Monday of this week, the BP Court-Supervised Settlement Program officially launched. While claims previously filed with the Gulf Coast Claims Facility have continued to be processed during the transition process, this week is the first opportunity that individuals and business have had to submit claims under the terms of the BP Settlement reached in March of this year.

The launch of the Court-Supervised Settlement Program is a significant step in the right direction for ensuring that those injured by the BP oil spill in 2010 receive full compensation for their harms. The Program promises to bring both transparency and consistency to the claims resolution process. The Court-Appointed Administrator ensures a claimant-friendly environment, where claims are resolved promptly, accurately and in full, without the process turning into a negotiation.

Individuals and business who wish to submit a claim under the BP Settlement can now access all the necessary information and forms on the official website for the Settlement Program. Specifically, claimants will find: registration information, claims instruction booklets for each type of claim covered, and claims submission forms. Both the registration and the submission of claims can be done through an online system in order to facilitate the process.

In addition to the official website, Businesses by the Beach, a coalition of attorneys working on the BP Settlement, continues to offer much-needed assistance to potential claimants as they work through the claims submission process.
